Introduction to LES
Here at Lewisburg Electric System, we are more than just your electric utility provider. We are your neighbors, friends, family, and community partners. Since our humble beginnings almost ninety years ago, we have been powering the heartbeat of Marshall County with reliable, affordable energy and a profound commitment to service.

History & Legacy
In the early months of 1935, city fathers and community leaders of Lewisburg, Tennessee began discussing the prospect of establishing a publicly owned electrical distribution system. Feeling the advantages heavily outweighed the disadvantages, the city leaders presented the pros and cons of this development to the citizens of Lewisburg. A public referendum was held, and the locals overwhelmingly approved the building of a municipally owned system – 465 votes in favor and only 5 against. This marked the beginning of a spirited new initiative to create a city-owned power system. Over the next four years, through innovation, dedication, and a shared vision, countless individuals gave their time and talent to make this dream a reality. The goal was clear: provide the citizens of Lewisburg with a low-cost, reliable source of electricity. That vision came to life when the electric system was finally completed and energized on March 6, 1939. At that time, we were founded as the Lewisburg Light and Power Department.

Since our creation in 1939, we have grown alongside the city of Lewisburg- constantly evolving to meet and exceed the needs of our local businesses, homes, and farms.
Our first office was located at 101 First Avenue N. while the warehouse operated at a separate location. As the Lewisburg community expanded and needs evolved, it was clear that a consolidated, more efficient facility was necessary. In 1977, we began composing the plans for an improved space, and by 1978, we had moved to our current location at 599 W. Ellington Parkway. This new, unified facility allowed our office and warehouse teams to collaborate more effectively and seamlessly. Serving us well for nearly five decades, our home base remains a valuable structure that enables us to continue providing Lewisburg with dependable and honest service.

Throughout the years, we’ve continually adapted to technological advancements and the evolving needs of the world around us – all to ensure the highest level of service for our valued community. We take great pride in delivering safe, reliable power to every customer we serve.

Our deep roots in Marshall County have shaped who we are and how we serve. As your neighbors – and as proud residents of Lewisburg – we understand that our work impacts not only our customers, but also the lives of our employees, families, and friends who call this community home. As Marshall County grows and changes, we remain committed to a proactive, forward-thinking approach that ensures we meet your needs today and for years to come. Our goal is to leave a lasting legacy: built on reliability, resilience, and unwavering service through power outages, economic shifts, and every challenge in between. We’re here for the long haul, dedicated to serving you and strengthening the community we all share.
